The tour included an event at Kryal Castle to be attended by the actors that portrayed members of the Weasley family, Fred, George, Ginny and Percy, but that event was postponed multiple times before it was eventually cancelled.
Now, ticketholders have been left stranded with no knowledge as to whether they will receive a refund for the cancelled event.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Almost 400 people have joined a Facebook group, cleverly titled Accio Refundio after the Harry Potter universe's retrieval charm, seeking a refund from promoter Wowza Entertainment.
The group is filled with post and comments from ticketholders across the country who have been unable to secure a refund for the cancelled events.
The creation of the group promoted a Facebook post from Kryal Castle to inform ticketholders of the business' involvement in the event, which was simply venue hire.
Post attracted more than 300 likes and 200 comments trying to find out how they could receive their refunds.
According to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission website, ASIC issued a notice of proposed deregistration for Wowza Entertainment in April and strike-off action is in progress.
General manager Bart Hamilton said Kryal Castle discovered the promoter was in the process of being deregistered and had no control over ticketing or refunds.
"We started getting calls and emails from customers about it. We eventually got onto the company, Wowza, and they confirmed it was going ahead but didn't we have any more details and then we noticed about two weeks later that their Facebook page was gone," he said.
Mr Hamilton said Kryal Castle started to reach out to customers regarding the event, who also struggled to contact the promoter.
"They were very much the same, they couldn't get a hold of anyone, they tried to chase down refunds and the bank was saying that there was nothing to refund because this company wasn't listed anywhere," he said.
"We thought it was a great event, the Weasley twins are pretty charismatic and it kind of fit with our brand, so it's just a real shame that it turns out [the promoter is] not as trustworthy as everyone thought."
Mr Hamilton said Kryal Castle had not been impacted financially by the cancellation and had not taken deposits on the dates, but could not help ticketholders with refunds.
"It's so hard in the COVID landscape, you never know whether or not they were delaying because they couldn't get them into the country or things like that," he said.
"Their marketing of it was so great, we thought that surely this must have been a legitimate company that spent a lot of money on getting these guys out here.
"It's been fine with us, it's just really sad for the customers, to be honest."
Wowza Entertainment did not respond to The Courier's request for comment.
