Emergency services rushed to the car fire near the corner of Smythes Road and The Avenue about 11.15am this morning.
People in the area at the time watched on, with one person capturing a video of the car engulfed in flames.
The car burned on grass under a tree as thick black smoke billowed into the air.
Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly, with it declared stopped just before 11.30am.
Two trucks attended - one from Ballarat City and the other from Lucas.
Police were called to manage traffic in the area and arrived on scene within minutes.
People are asked to avoid the area as it is cleared.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said the fire did not threaten any structures and nobody was hurt.
The fire is not deemed to be suspicious.
