With last season's leading wickettaker Tom Le Lievre (26 wickets) crossing to Mt Clear, Wendouree captain Ryan Simmonds was wary his side had to step up with the ball.
"It's definitely no secret that over the past few years that we've relied pretty heavily on our batting," he said.
"We've had to look to improve our bowling and that's something we've taken a focus on this this pre-season."
Simmonds said the Red Caps would have to approach their bowling differently heading into another one-dayers only season.
"It's about making sure you have really clear plans," he said.
"It's not like two-day cricket where you can just have someone bowl 20 overs on the trot. You've got to be really specific."
