Councillors approved officer recommendations to award the tenders for the Sturt Street bike path, Victoria Park pavilion and Cuthberts Road reconstruction projects at Wednesday night's council meeting.
The almost $3.7 million Sturt Street bike path project was awarded to Fulton Hogan and will see the construction of a shared bike path from Dawson Street to Grenville Street.
The new path in the median of Sturt Street will connect with the recently-constructed section which starts are Pleasant Street and was funded by Regional Roads Victoria.
The project also includes landscaping and streetscape works to the Sturt Street median.
I'm pretty excited to see this actually come before council given that its also been a very long time in the making.

Council will receive about $1.8 million in government funding through the black spot program and Department of Transport and foot the bill for the remaining $1.8 million.
Central ward councillor Mark Harris said while he did not support the idea of the bike path, he supported the tender application but was waiting on crossing works to be completed at Drummond Street.
"I'm plainly not a big supporter of the bike path, but this is a tender and the tender was done absolutely appropriately so I have no hesitation," he said.
"I'm still waiting to get across up at Drummond Street and haven't had a resolved traffic pattern delivered by any one of our officers so I'll be looking forward to seeing that because it would be nice if these bits actually linked up."
Central ward councillor Belinda Coates also queried when the crossing at Drummond Street would be completed to allow uninterrupted use of the bike path, but praised the addition of active transport to Sturt Street.
"The process has been completely good and I'm pretty excited to see this actually come before council given that its also been a very long time in the making," she said.
"I think from start to this point, it's been a number of years so it will be a really welcome connection.
"So many cities around the world, whether they're small or big cities, are focusing in on walking and cycling and that's been emphasised during the pandemic as well.
"Some of the best cities in the world, the best heritage cities in the world, are making great gains in cycling and I'd encourage councillors to look at what Paris is doing and cities like that where they are really capitalising on the benefit of active transport."

Fulton Hogan was also awarded the tender for the $950,000 Cuthberts Road reconstruction project, with 1.8 kilometres of road from Burrumbeet-Hillcrest Road to Smarts Hill Road to be stabilised and reconstructed.
The tender for the $2.6 million Victoria Park pavilion will be awarded to Ballarat builder Nicholson Construction.
The new pavilion will serve three tenant groups, Lucas Cricket Club, Victoria Park Soccer Club and the Ballarat Dog Obedience Club, along with a range of other user groups, and makes up part of the $5.2 million Victoria Park redevelopment project.
The need for a new pavilion was identified in the Victoria Park Master Plan which recommended the 'development of improved facilities in the proximity of existing high use areas, including improved access to all toilets, all abilities facilities and the provision of female change rooms'.
South ward councillor Des Hudson said the pavilion would be another step in the redevelopment project.
"It's a great project and the three tenants, the dog obedience, Lucas Cricket Club and Victoria Park Soccer Club will all benefit greatly and hopefully grow their sports and involvement," he said.
"The new fields look great and hopefully the light towers will be up shortly and complimentary to the total project."
