Highway Patrol officers spotted the silver Toyota sedan on Saturday night and attempted to pull the driver over after seeing the car "deliberately lose traction".
But the 24 year-old driver refused to pull over and continued to speed up Sturt Street.
IN OTHER NEWS:
One witness told The Courier he was driving in the left lane heading west-bound near the Drummond Street intersection when the car sped past in the right lane, seemingly out of nowhere.
Police later went to the owner's home and impounded the car, which was only purchased days earlier.
The driver is also expected to receive a summons to attend court at a later date.
