The upgrades - extra overtaking lanes, wider shoulders, and wire rope barriers - were initially announced in early 2019, and are expected to be finished in the first quarter of 2022.
According to Regional Roads Victoria, after almost two and a half years of work, the focus now is on final sealing and line marking, as well as additional surface repairs.

The current 60km/h speed limit will remain until all the asphalting and sealing work is completed.
In response to questions from The Courier about what's caused the delays, state Department of Transport's safer roads director Scott Larence said the final works required warmer weather for more suitable roadbuilding conditions.

"With the installation of life-saving flexible safety barriers and new dedicated overtaking lanes now complete, our focus is to finalise asphalting and sealing works," he said in a statement.
"These works will ensure the road surface is smoother and safer for the thousands of drivers who use this road each day."
