A Sunshine man has been charged over an alleged robbery and assault on a woman in Ballarat.

The 56 year-old victim, from Ballarat, was walking to work on Drummond Street about 5.50am Thursday, when the man allegedly approached her before dragging her across Webster Street and attempting to steal her jewellery.
She then allegedly suffered an assault to the head before the man ran from the scene with one of her shoes.
The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police arrested the alleged offender short time later, however it is not known where.
The 25 year-old has since been charged with robbery, recklessly causing injury, assaulting an emergency worker and stating a false name.
He was bailed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates' Court in June next year.
