Working at home last Thursday, the media stalwart received an email, indicating a record donation of $50,000 had been made to the 3BA Christmas Appeal.
The boss jumped on the phone, suggesting a typographical error had occurred.
A loyal employee chastised him, indicating such errors did not happen.
The reality was the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat Foundation had donated the sum.
The body is intent on helping those in need, according to business manager Andrew Jirik.

"We wanted to make an impact and we wanted to make sure the money got to where it needed to get," Mr Jirik said.
"The 3BA Christmas Appeal is ideal for this.
They've got resources, they've got connections. We had our meeting on Thursday; we made a decision; it hit the accounts on Tuesday."
The four charities - Uniting Ballarat, the Salvation Army, Anglicare Ballarat and the St Vincent de Paul Society - were chuffed
"They're stoked," Mr Fitzgibbon said.
"It's about helping as many people as possible."
