Drivers heading south on Learmonth Street to Latrobe Street in Delacombe will have to find alternate routes in December as construction begins on a new set of traffic lights.

According to Regional Roads Victoria, southbound traffic will be blocked from December 6 "until mid-december, weather permitting", with detours in place on Winter Street to get to Latrobe Street.
"Learmonth Street will remain open to northbound traffic, with additional traffic management in place. Access will be maintained to businesses along Learmonth Street from northbound lanes," an RRV update states.
Meanwhile, the Gillies Street and Gregory Street West intersection, which has had traffic lights installed, will begin final asphalting and linemarking works from December 5, and is expected to take about two weeks.
One side of Gillies Street will be closed at a time while the work is completed, with most to be done at night from 6pm to 7am.
The upgrades, funded by the state government as part of its $60 million Keeping Ballarat Moving program, will be the first finished.
As well as Gillies Street and Latrobe Street, traffic lights are also being installed at the Glenelg Highway and Wiltshire Lane intersection, with closures expected on Cherry Flat Road in January; Hertford Street and Albert Street in Sebastopol; and the Midland Highway and Docwra Street in Magpie.
Final designs for the planned upgrade at Dyson Drive and Carngham Road have not yet been released - when the project was announced in 2018 as part of Labor's state election campaign, it was planned as a roundabout.
The City of Ballarat has been lobbying all levels of government for funding to duplicate Dyson Drive as part of the Ballarat Link Road stage two.
The last update from RRV on this intersection was from May 2021, noting "(w)e'll finalise the intersection design and make plans available to the community later in 2021 ahead of major works form 2022".
Closer to town, traffic light installation works at the train station on Nolan Street are under way, with alternating lane closures, while bike path works have temporarily closed Doveton Crescent.
