The whole school held a dress-up day on Monday to raise funds for FECRI, and for Coeliac Australia, after grade five and six students completed projects in which they were encouraged to research something they were passionate about and to make, create or design something linked with their passion.
Five pairs of students wanted to do fundraisers, and together decided to highlight the work of FECRI and Coeliac Australia because one of the students has coeliac disease and there are no fundraisers for the cause.
The theme of the dress-up day pulled together many of the passion projects across the senior cohort: come as someone who inspires you, crazy fashion or animals.
Grade 5/6 teacher Hailey Eeles said the children came up with their plans during remote learning and worked hard on them.
"One of our groups created a letterbox and in the letterbox wrote letters to cancer patients having treatment to inspire them to keep fighting, and they want to deliver them to patients here," she said.
Another group designed a robot that would scan the human body from head to toe and tell them if they had cancer or not.
"It's something they hope will happen in the future. We said to them to 'dream as big as you want to dream ' and it didn't have to be real which is where the robot comes from ... imagine if that could really happen."

In following their passion and involving the whole school the pupils also learned about the cutting-edge medical research that FECRI is carrying out.
"It was interesting how many kids just wanted to donate to cancer but didn't know the story of FECRI and what they are doing here in Ballarat," Ms Eeles said.
The dress-up day raised $405 for FECRI and $170 for Coeliac Australia.
