The City of Ballarat has announced a number of pool closures on its Facebook page this afternoon.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 50 metre pool at Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre will be closed from midday today until close of business," the Facebook post said.

"Brown Hill Pool is currently closed and will reopen on Sunday 2nd January.

"Black Hill Pool will be closed Friday 31st December & Saturday 1st January and will also reopen on Sunday 2nd January."

A subsequent post explains the closures.

"Unfortunately, some lifeguards are awaiting COVID-19 test results (unrelated to BALC) and therefore we are unable to staff all pools to full capacity," the later post reported.

Eureka Aquatic Centre is currently open as is the Buninyong Aquatic Centre.

Ballarat's swimming pools and outdoor water play facilities are set to be inundated with those seeking relief from the heat over coming days.

The town will experience a stretch of hot days with 27 degrees predicted for Wednesday, 33 degrees for Thursday, 36 degrees for Friday, 35 degrees for Saturday, 29 degrees for Sunday, and 26 degrees for Monday.

As a consequence, many residents, particularly those with young families, will be desperate for a dip in order to refresh. As it stands, people will be spoilt for choice with a number of well-resourced, accesible, and affordable amenities on offer.

In a timely development, Midlands Splash Park on Doveton Street is up and running again having been long out of commission, although construction zones remain to the north and south of the recreational area.

Three groups were enjoying the reopened facility on Tuesday morning, even though conditions were relatively cool.

Robyn, a mother of an 8 year-old daughter, was thrilled to be back at the Midlands site.

"I think this is the first time (we have been here) since COVID," Robyn said.

"This is very exciting for her."

As her daughter danced amongst the deluge of water, Robyn identified three features of the facility which includes dry and wet realms.

"It's fun for her; it's community-based; and it's free," Robyn said.

Robyn, known to take advantage of the splash park herself on occasion, was also appreciative of the proximity of a traditional playground, providing plenty of entertainment value for children.

On the other side of town, at the Victory Park water play facility in Sebastopol, 7 year-old Wolfy Hammonds was like a pig in mud or, more appropriately, a duck in water.

His parents, Alana Smith and Joel Hammonds, having moved to Ballarat from Melbourne in the last 12 months, have been enjoying the less frenetic nature of life in the regional centre.

Ms Smith sat in the shade, in ample supply at both the Midlands and Sebastopol locales, taking some time away from her jewellery business, as her partner and son ran the watery gauntlet.

When commenting on his feelings about Ballarat, Wolfy struggled to contain his enthusiasm, an emotional state largely stemming from the local splash park.

"Well, I really like it," he said, making observations about his new home.

"I like it because of this water park. It's really, really fun."

Life just keeps getting better for the young man who has enjoyed his schooling at Phoenix College and the company of his new American bulldog.

Christmas loot entailing caramel M&Ms, soap-on-a-rope, a badminton kit, and Lego sets did not hurt either.

In addition to the two outdoor water play facilities, Ballarat's pools will be open for a public keen to cool off.

The indoor Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre, located at Prince of Wales Park, Gillies Street North, contains options for the seasoned campaigner keen on laps through to smaller types intent on a play.

It will be open on Wednesday December 29 from 6am - 6pm; Thursday December 30 from 6am - 6pm; Friday December 31 from 6am - 6pm; Saturday January 1 from 8am - 6pm; Sunday January 2 from 8am - 6pm; and Monday January 3 from 8am - 4pm.

The Eureka Aquatic Centre, located in Stawell Street, is open Monday to Friday 6am to 7pm and on weekends and public holidays 8am to 7pm.

The Black Hill Aquatic Centre, located in Chisholm St, is open Monday to Friday 6am to 7pm and weekends and public holidays 1pm to 7pm.

The Brown Hill Aquatic Centre, located in Humffray Street North, is open Monday to Friday 6am to 7pm and weekends and public holidays 1pm to 7pm.

The Buninyong Aquatic Centre, located in Forest Street, is open Monday to Friday 6am to 7pm and weekends and public holidays 1pm to 7pm.
