According to Victoria Police Media, emergency services were called to Peel Street North near Chisholm Street after a report of a man being assaulted.
The three men allegedly involved fled the scene.
A 26-year-old man from Ballarat Central has since been charged with assault-related offences and bailed to face Ballarat Magistrates' Court on August 29.
A 20-year-old man from Ballarat North was also arrested but has been exonerated in relation to this incident.
PREVIOUSLY:
Police have identified a man after a brutal assault in Black Hill that left a victim in an induced coma.
According to police, the attack occurred in Peel Street about 10.30pm on December 17.
Ballarat Divisional Response Unit detectives say three men men attacked an innocent victim, who ended up in a coma at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Police have interviewed two of the men and after help from the public, were able to identify the third on Monday afternoon.
However, he has not yet been located.
