The Courier received more than 100 entries claiming to be the most atrocious kitchens in the city as part of The Courier’s Worst Kitchen competition. And now it’s time to vote.
Readers can vote on the entries by clicking on the The Courier’s Worst Kitchen competition, scrolling through the photos and selecting the kitchen which you deem to be the worst. When voting closes on Friday, November 23, Ballarat’s Worst Kitchen judges will select the winner from the five worst kitchens nominated by readers.
The winner will receive a Realistic Kitchens renovation. The prize includes a kitchen renovation worth up to $20,000 supplied by Malcolm Alexander’s Realistic Kitchens, including taps and sinkware, door selection from Polytec, hardware and fittings from Hettich Australia, benchtops and splashbacks by Laminex and a range of Modena appliances.
For entrant Katrina McGearey, living with a dysfunctional kitchen has been a nightmare.
“I can’t even cook in my kitchen because the oven overheats after two minutes and if you cook on the hotplates things fall into the food from the chimney. So I eat out which has got me in the vicious cycle where I’m spending money on takeout and unable to save money to redo my kitchen,” Ms McGeary said.
“My kitchen is an absolute disgrace.”
Ms McGeary said winning the competition would be a complete lifestyle change.
“It would make a massive difference to my life,” she said.
