$2m a year for our top earners

THE City of Ballarat's top earners cost ratepayers almost $2 million each year.A list of senior officer salaries shows at least 15 people on more than $100,000 per annum.Chief executive officer Anthony Schinck tops the list, being paid a total package worth $210,000 each year.The figure is less than his predecessor, Richard Hancock, who was being rewarded with a $246,000 package before he resigned last year. Mr Schinck was on a package of $150,000 in his previous role as the council's general manager of city infrastructure and development.Four of the city's five general managers are all on salaries of $130,000 or more.City marketing and business development boss George Sossi has a package of $145,000, finance and shared services chief Glenn Kallio earns $135,000 and organisational development general manager Garry Davis and city sustainability boss Ian Rossiter are paid $130,000 each.Other top earners include the city's managers of infrastructure, operations, information services, regulatory services, community strengthening and services, marketing and communications and financial operations.Ballarat Fine Art Gallery director Gordon Morrison also makes the list, earning a total package of just over $106,000.The packages include vehicle, superannuation and taxable salary, with Mr Schink's package breaking down to:*$14,981 for a car;*$16,102 in super;*and a salary of $178, 917.He is also given other benefits to the value of $7500.The package sits among those paid to chief executive officers at other regional Victorian councils.City of Greater Bendigo's new boss Craig Niemann is on around $230,000, City of Greater Geelong chief Kay Rundle has a package worth $310,000, while Warrnambool City Council's Bruce Anson earns around $200,000.
