BALLARAT Dragons Abreast members are putting the colourful finishing touches on their new boat. After more than four years without their own racing vessel the group will launch the new boat, `Intrepid' in March.Dragons Abreast member Janice Ward said the boat was the result of the group's fund-raising efforts."It'll be fantastic _ we'll be able to compete" she said. The Ballarat Dragons Abreast group included 30 members and it took 22 to fill the boat, she said. A dragon's head and tail, designed by Linton artist Pam Farey, will be added before the boat is launched. Ms Farey said she had painted the boat in the colours of the Dragons Abreast emblem. She has also painted blue and silver scales on the inside of the boat for those paddling to enjoy. "It's been a huge project," Ms Farey said."I have been working here since new year, virtually five days a week, just doing the scales."The Dragons Abreast movement was founded in Canada in 1996 after it was found paddling could benefit the physical and emotional health of breast cancer survivors.
