WELL-known Ballarat teacher Rob Olston has died after a battle with prostate cancer.A revered teacher at Ballarat Grammar and a loving husband to Dianne, Mr Olston made sure he made every day count after doctors delivered the diagnosis in 2008.In a self-written piece published in The Courier last June, Mr Olston spoke of his acceptance of the situation."I couldn't argue `why me?','' he said."Having accepted the situation, Dianne and I set about living life to the full; making the most not of every day, but of every micro-second."Every day was to be a purposefully filled five-star day.''Mr Olston died peacefully at Gandarra aged 61 on Saturday.In a notice in The Courier today, Dianne wrote "Your death leaves a void that nothing can fill, but your love and care leaves a legacy that will live with us still''.Ballarat Grammar headmaster Stephen Higgs said he had spoken with Dianne since Mr Olston's death and said her spirit was to be admired."She herself is radiating a wonderful sense of calm and peace,'' he said."It has been a momentous weekend for the school because Rob was a much loved member of staff and mentor to many students and staff."We feel his loss greatly but have also been really inspired by his love of life, especially in recent years when he has been under the threat of cancer."And his determination to make the most of every day is a lesson to us all.''A public memorial service will be held for Mr Olston next week.
