BALLARAT’S historic Gove Cycles store was officially reopened last night, with the new owners celebrating with founder Bill Gove. Arthur and Sharine Shaw purchased the 54-year-old business from Mr Gove and his wife Leslie in May, and have completed a heritage restoration of the building, assisted by Heritage Ballarat. City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Craig Fletcher officially unveiled a memorabilia wall in the store, which will now benefit from the expertise and experience of local bike technician Phillip Orr. Click to view last night's photos“Gove Cycles has been an institution within Ballarat for the last 54 years,” Mrs Shaw said. “Ask anyone over the age of 30 where they got their first bike from, and there’s a fair change their answer will be Gove Cycles.” The reinvigorated business, in the 100 year-old building, will become the first Australian store to become a Specialized brand concept outlet, and will also feature the well-known Bike Rack Cafe and a new professional bike fitting service for customers.Gove Cycles is at 524 Doveton Street North.
