IT HAS been almost four years since Big Ted stretched his long straw arms across the horizon in Bo Peep.Constructed from an assortment of hay bales, the giant teddy bear looms at the end of Cuthbert St at more than five metres tall and wears a big grin on his face.Farmer John Fraser said the concept started years ago when his daughter travelled to Europe."She saw all these little creatures made out of hay bales and thought we could do something similar," he said.Big Ted usually appears just before Christmas and is always decorated for the occasion. One year there were two of the giant bears for Mr Fraser's son's wedding and Big Ted took on robot form for the millennium.More recently, Big Ted was shown with an angry face and a destroyed wind turbine when local residents opposed the development of a wind farm in the area."It's nice to see him smiling again," Mr Fraser laughed."A lot of tourists come and get photographs with him."We decided to lock the gate after people were driving in."
