The sirens, which are currently being trialled at a number of areas across the state, are designed to alert residents of any potential fire danger and instruct them to introduce their personal bushfire plans.
Funding has been approved for them to be installed in the Moorabool Shire and the council is planning to gain feedback from the community to determine where they will be placed.
Proposed locations are: the Blackwood CFA Station, Blackwood Community Hall and Greendale CFA Station, as well as Dales Creek and Barrys Reef.
A number of community information sessions will be held later this month to gauge community feedback. Moorabool mayor Councillor Pat Griffin said a community working group had been formed, consisting of CFA members, community members and council representatives.
“We have been aware for some times that these communities have expressed an interest in exploring options for a siren to be sounded in case of emergency,” he said.
Information sessions will be held on the following dates:
• Greendale Hotel – Tuesday, July 24 from 7.30pm to 9pm
• Blackwood Hotel – Wednesday, July 25 from 7.30pm to 9pm
• Dales Creek Reserve – Saturday, July 28 from 9.30am to 10am
• Barrys Reef – Saturday, July 28 from 10.30am to 11am.
