THE committal hearing of a former Ballarat police officer accused of having sex with a female defendant continued this morning, with the second witness expected to give evidence this afternoon.Shaun Perry appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court where he faces four charges including two counts of wilful misconduct, and single counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice and unlawful assault.During the morning session the court was played a recording allegedly made by the first witness — a woman who claimed to have had sex with the former police prosecutor on numerous occasions while she was facing criminal charges. The recording lasted about ten minutes and revealed a male and female talking together, and the female laughing at times. The male was heard referring to handcuffs, saying: “why, do you like them?”Later, the female was heard saying: “how about if I ring ya and say we need to be arrested”, and then making references to being picked up in a “divvy van”.The alleged offences relating to the first witness were said to have taken place between January 16 and March 13, 2009.The hearing, which was originally scheduled to end tomorrow, could go into a fourth day after new evidence submitted by the prosecution this morning temporarily delayed proceedings. The case before magistrate Peter Couzens has become open to the public after a suppression order was lifted late yesterday morning.Read The Courier tomorrow for the full story.
