BALLARAT company Integra Group has announced 24 jobs will go from its civil contracting business. The job losses follow a decision by the property developer to no longer tender for external projects. The civil contracting unit did roadworks projects around the state, mostly for VicRoads. Integra had been monitoring the performance of the unit for the past 18 months, and had tried unsuccessfully to sell it as a going concern. But the decision will not affect the group's work on the Ballarat Golf Club and the Sturt St duplication.About 35 staff will keep their jobs in the unit to work on the group's property developments.Integra Group managing director Andre Agterhuis delivered the news to a meeting of workers yesterday."Clearly it will be a day of mixed emotions for them," Mr Agterhuis told aifThe Courieraif."All we can do now is try to make the transition as easy as possible."He said the company would try to fill most of the redundancies on a voluntary basis. Workers to take up the packages would also have access to help from a specialist outplacement firm. The restructure is expected to be completed by the end of March. Some of the 24 people in permanent and part times roles would be transferred to another civil contracting business. Mr Agterhuis said the decision was a corporate policy decision and was not related to the global financial crisis. "Our other businesses are strong and are performing well," he said. The company, formerly known as Roadcon, currently employs more than 180 people across four divisions in Victoria and Queensland.
