A MAN died after a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a truck on the Daylesford-Trentham Road at Musk yesterday. The motorcyclist was travelling towards Daylesford when he collided with the truck on a sweeping bend at about 2.30pm.Moorabool Highway Patrol Senior Constable Darren Wyka said the rider swerved into the other side of the road in the 80km/h zone.“The rider veered across double lines and collided with the truck,” he said.It is not yet determined what caused the rider to veer into oncoming traffic but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be involved.Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Gabrielle Degenhardt said the man was declared dead at the scene. “He was deceased when paramedics arrived,” she said.Paramedics attempted unsuccessfully to revive the man. Ms Degenhardt said two paramedic units and a local general practitioner attended the crash.Senior Constable Wyka said the truck driver was lucky to escape serious injury. The collision caused the truck to lose steering and the driver narrowly avoided a number of trees on the side of the road. The truck came to rest about 80 metres from the collision.“I don’t know how he didn’t flip the truck,” he said. The 44-year-old truck driver from Bendigo was not injured and has assisted police with their enquiries. The motorcyclist was the 27th person to die on Victoria’s roads this year.Police will prepare a report for the Coroner. The name of the deceased man is yet to be released.
