AROUND 230 bales worth of loose straw is up for grabs today at Ballarat Showgrounds _ but you must be quick. The straw is left over from the Ballarat Sheep and Alpaca Show held at the weekend and is free for the taking.Ballarat Agriculture and Pastoral Society administration assistant Sue Higgs said the used straw was particularly ideal for compost and garden mulching. The straw may also have other uses around the farm, depending on the situation."It is available to anybody who wants to come in with a trailer and collect it," Ms Higgs said. The straw will be available from 9am this morning and is expected to be gone by the end of the day."Last year, we had about 30 people come early to take it away, so people have to be quick," Ms Higgs said.
