CANCER patients at Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital will soon be feeling much more comfortable, courtesy of the Freemasons Public Charitable Fund.A $5000 donation will allow the BHS oncology unit to buy a specialised armchair that provides extra comfort for patients, along with a flip-top table.Oncology unit manager Louise Taylor said the chair also allowed for patients to be laid flat for medical procedures, particularly CPR, instead of having to be transferred to a bed."To us, with the growing population and an increase in patients, it's important our ongoing needs are met to replace equipment and give patients what they need," Ms Taylor said.Freemasons Bruce Bartrop and Bill Hewitt presented Ms Taylor with the funds during a recent visit to the unit, where they met oncology patient Gerald Diamond of Lal Lal, who praised both the donation and the "kindness and dedication" of the BHS staff.Mr Bartrop said the Freemasons Public Charitable Foundation had donated funds to 400 charities and organisations across Victoria since 1989.
