A LEADING Ballarat gold shop owner believes more than 250 prospectors are scanning the region for gold.The Mining Exchange Gold Shop owner Cordell Kent said gold detecting had become a profession, with people giving up their jobs to go detecting.He said good technology was giving prospectors the best chance of finding gold. "I have found big pieces with detectors. It's amazing technology," Mr Kent said."If you spend money on a detector, you have a good chance of finding gold."A gold prospector recently contacted Mr Kent after finding about $9000 worth of gold over two weeks scouring the Ballarat goldfields."Gold is alive. We are living in historic times," he said."We know where the gold has been found, we just need good technology to work the ground."Another gold prospector emptied his pockets on the gold shop's counter and used his takings to buy a brand new car.Mr Kent said the amount of gold out there was phenomenal.The Mining Exchange Gold Shop buys gold from people who have unearthed it from the Ballarat goldfields and makes jewellery that ends up across the world. Mr Kent said he made the jewellery to be appreciated by future generations.
