Maryborough footy player dies on oval

A 24-YEAR-old Maryborough footballer has died after suffering a heart attack during a practice match at Princes Park at the weekend.Carl Lawrence was playing for Maryborough against Newlyn at the wekend when he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest during the game.A fellow team mate, who is a paramedic, tried to revive him.Paramedics from Maryborough and Avoca were called to Princes Park the oval just after 2.30 pm on Saturday afternoon.The Bendigo-based air ambulance helicopter was also called."They worked for over an hour trying to revive him," Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said.Mr Lawrence was taken to the Maryborough Hospital, where he later died. The practice match was abandoned.
