THERE was a time when it looked as though the Ballarat City Rowing Club was soon to be extinct, but not anymore. The club is back in business and it looks as though there are some bright times ahead.Club historian Kate Elliott said the club was now facing a rebirth after some tough years."We're back in action, things are starting to ramp up," she said."It's just wonderful, most of the committee that hung in there and kept things moving have rowed for 20 or 30 years."It had been more than six years since the club last had a boat on Lake Wendouree, but the filling of the lake has resulted in a strong resurgence by the club."We lost a generation of rowers really," said Ms Elliott. The club will turn 140 years old this year and Ms Elliott said there were times when she did not think the club would survive."If we get to 150 years it will be great. Not many sporting clubs reach that mark," she said. The club will hold its 140th year anniversary in November and Ms Elliott encouraged anyone interested to get involved in rowing."Drop by the shed when it's open," she said.
