Schoolgirl indecently assaulted in attack at Victoria Park

A BALLARAT schoolgirl was indecently assaulted at Victoria Park yesterday.The 14-year-old girl was walking through the park about 8am when she was approached by an unknown man in the Russell St area.Detective Senior Constable Rod Stepnell, of the Ballarat Criminal Investigation Unit, said the man approached the girl and indecently assaulted her.The girl, who was walking alone, managed to break free from the man and run for help, he said.The man was described as being in his mid to early 20s with short light brown hair and possibly a pimply complexion.He was believed to be wearing blue jeans and a jacket at the time of the attack.Further circumstances surrounding the assault were unknown yesterday.Police will continue their investigations today.Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to call Det Sen Const Stepnell at Ballarat CIU on 5336 6080 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
