SLIPPERY roads caused difficulty for motorists in Ballarat yesterday morning. Two car crashes were reported, in Ballarat and Alfredton, which police said were a result of hazardous roads after morning rain.A female was taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with minor injuries after the car she was in and another car collided at the Talbot and Sturt streets intersection shortly after 9am.Police said one car hit a give-way sign after the cars collided.Talbot St Nth and one lane of Sturt St were closed for 30 minutes while the intersection was made safe.About the same time, three vehicles were involved in a crash in Gillies St, south of the Sturt St intersection. The driver of a truck hit a stationary white Ford Laser, pushing it into the tray of another vehicle. The back of the Laser was extensively damaged, but the two occupants, a mother dropping her daughter off at school, were uninjured.Ballarat City Fire Brigade units attended the accidents.Police said driver error was the cause of both accidents.Ballarat Police Sergeant Stuart Gale said people needed to be aware of driving conditions when the weather changed."As a result of the warm weather on the weekend and then rain, there was oil on the roads which made them slippery," Sgt Gale said."This makes the roads hazardous. People need to be aware of the driving conditions in the changing weather."Sgt Gale said one way to prevent a crash was for drivers to brake earlier to make sure they stopped in time.
