TWO beautifully timed powerplays gave Victoria a 4-2 win at home against City Oval in the Super 6's last night. After dropping the first set in both the pairs and the triples, the Hawks were fighting back in the second sets until the yellow jacks came out, meaning double points were on offer. In the second set of the triples, City Oval held a 6-1 lead with just two ends to play but some great leading by Mal Tudorovic, capped off by some nice drawing by Steve Britt, gave the Vics a three, putting them in front at the business end of the match. It was a similar story in the pairs, City Oval 7-2 up after five until a powerplay three put them behind by one.In both cases, Victoria held on to the lead. Terry O'Farrell gave City Oval some points in the singles with a win over Bob Whitcher. Britt said the new rule helped them out no end."We were struggling in the second set but played a few good bowls and got a six," he said."We were thankful for the powerplay."The win keeps Victoria within two points of Sebastopol on the section one ladder."Next week's a crunch game for both of us (Victoria and Sebas)," Britt said. The two meet each other in what could decide who goes into the final.Meanwhile in section two, Ballarat East leap to the top of the ladder with a straight-rinks win over Ballarat. And a special mention to Ballarat Memorial Sport picking up its first points of the competition despite going down to Sebas. And then there was one Ballarat bowler left in the Australian Open at Shepparton, all-be-it Sebastopol's import Jeremy Henry. From the four that made the final draw only Henry, playing in the triples with Aussie representatives Barrie Lester and Wayne Turley, was still in the tournament after he, along with Sebas' Robbie Baker and Central Wendouree's Greg Brown, was knocked out of the singles in the third round on Wednesday.Henry's trio now face Joel Mitchell, Benjamin Walsh and Steve McGuiness in the semi-final at 9am today with the final to be played at 2pm.
