A SECOND Ballarat Bargain Browser opportunity shop was officially opened in Wendouree yesterday by Ballarat City Council Mayor Craig Fletcher. The new Bargain Browser is run by BRACE with the support of the community, and provides employment training opportunities for disadvantaged or disabled people in the area.BRACE chief executive officer Christopher Carroll said the store aimed to foster an inclusive work environment and enhance employment opportunities for disadvantaged people in the Wendouree and Ballarat area.“Places like this give people a sense of self worth and help break down social isolation,” he said. The original Bargain Browser is located in Eastwood Street, and was run by the Baptist Church until BRACE took over operations nearly two years ago.Several community organisations have supported the project, including the City of Ballarat and Wendouree West Community Renewal, and the Baptist Church has continued its support of the stores.Mr Carroll said that Hip Pocket Ballarat had provided work wear and professional business attire for volunteers, so they could present themselves professionally at interviews.Mike Robbins, a BRACE board member, said it was a great example of how BRACE integrated itself with the local community.“Working with the community, we are able to achieve brilliant outcomes and provide life-enhancing opportunities,” he said.
