Rachel Tallent Canberra-bound after Athletics Australia national under-17 development squad selection

NEWLYN race walker Rachel Tallent has been selected in the Athletics Australia national under-17 development squad.Athletics Australia national youth performance manager Sara Mulkearns said the squad represents an exciting new wave of athletics talent."We're trying to embrace all the young talent that's out there and let them know that the national sporting organisation is watching them and impressed by them and wants to encourage them to go forward," she said.Tallent will leave tomorrow to take part in a three-day training and development camp with the squad at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.As part of her involvement in the program, Tallent will work closely with Athletics Australia's national youth event coaches over the next 12 months. Her brother Jared put Australia on the walking map when he claimed silver and bronze at the Beijing Olympics, becoming the first Aussie male to win two athletics medals at the same Olympics in 102 years of competition.
