NORTH Ballarat's Myles Sewell is the Victorian Football League best and fairest.Sewell last night polled 18 votes to capture the time honoured JJ Liston Trophy.The Roosters premiership player finished with 18 votes - two clear of Werribee Tigers youngster Michael Barlow.Sewell clinched the award outright with two votes in North Ballarat's last home and away round victory over Sandringham.He is the second North Ballarat player to win the JJ Liston Trophy - joining Julian Field, who claimed the VFL's highest individual honour in 2004.A shocked Sewell described the win as surreal.From Newlyn, Sewell had a distinguished career with the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup under-18 competition - captaining the Rebels in 2006 as well as winning their best fairest and finishing fourth in the Morrish Medal in the same year.The 21-year-old was joint leader on 11 votes in the count at Etihad Stadium last night.He trailed by one after being best-on-the-ground in round 17 and then took the lead with two votes in round 19.He need a vote in the last game to shake off Barlow.North Ballarat head coach Gerard FitzGerald was among the first to congratulate Sewell, who is coached at the Rebels as well.He said Sewell's strengths included his coachability and willingness to learn.North Ballarat's Steve Clifton finished equal sixth on 11 votes.NORTH Ballarat had three players in the VFL player of the year.Orren Stephenson was named in the ruck, Sewell as rover and Clifton on interchange.
