DAMIEN Keirl has had his second victory in the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club’s A-grade criterium series.Visiting riders from CBD-Degani had strong representation and set a fast pace early.Phil Orr was the first to launch off the front, and took Matt Clark and Oliver LeGrice (CBDDegani) with him, butthe trio was caught behind C-grade riders as they attempted to pass.Jay Bourke and Orr attacked down the back straight, and this triggered a reaction from Rob Doyle, Rhys Gilletand Evan Oliphant, who until then, had been happy for the race to take its course.Bourke continually attacked off the front, while Doyle and Gillet had a probe. With two laps remaining, thepace was off and the games began, with no riders willing to overcommit too early.Coming into the final lap, it was Gillet who took up the pace close to 50kmh with Doyle sitting in second wheel.Coming to the finishing line, Doyle missed a gear, which allowed Damien Keirl and Oliphant to take a flyer.Doyle kicked late, closing the gap to force the closest finish of the series so far, with Keirl holding out for first, his second win in as many weeks.RESULTSA grade — Damien Keirl, Rob Doyle, Evan Oliphant. B grade — Shane Cody, Greg Nunn, Joel Hossack. C grade — Jeremy Doolan, Hugo Tolliday, Dave Peters.D grade — Angus Lyons, Molly Hegert.
