NORTH Ballarat Rebel Andrew Hooper has given his chances of being picked up in this year's AFL national draft a major boost by being named joint winner of the Larke Medal yesterday. The medal is awarded to the best and fairest player/s across the AFL National Under-18 Championships.Hooper shared the honour with Western Australia's David Swallow. The Larke Medal is voted on by the All-Australian team selectors, with both Hooper and Swallow finishing with 18 points after the five rounds of matches.Hooper, who was named as Victoria Country's most valuable player in last year's under-18 carnival, said it was a big thrill to receive such recognition."It is a great individual honour," he said. The Vic Country captain was tried in a number of different positions through the carnival, including defence, forward and even midfield roles."I thought I played my better footy on the half-back flank, but it's great to play midfield," he said.Hooper enjoyed a standout performance against Tasmania where he collected 26 possessions and 13 marks.- Victoria Country finished its 2009 campaign with defeat at the hands of WA, who wrapped up the carnival honours yesterday. The undefeated WA was challenged by the Vics in the first half and lead by just one point at the long break, before bursting clear to win the match by 48 points.
