GOLDEN Point Junior Football Club will fold unless volunteers step forward.About 150 junior footballers are at risk of having to find a new playing home. The Dragons and the Ballarat Football League have put out an urgent call for Point parents, prospective Pointies and former Pointies to lend a hand.Golden Point must fill at least 10 committee positions by its annual general meeting this Saturday or the Dragons will face closure as a stand-alone club. One member has indicated they will stand for re-election.Outgoing president Nicole Creati, who also juggled the role of junior co-ordinator, is resigning for family reasons after two years battling to keep the club afloat.More volunteers are crucial to share the load. Under-14 coach and former Point junior Brendan Birch and Western Bulldogs forward Andrew Hooper, also a former Point junior, have thrown their support behind the club’s cause. But the Dragons are in desperate need of more hands-on support.Ballarat Football League operations manager Aaron Nunn said the league had deep concerns for the Dragons and was working closely with the club to help. He made a passionate plea to club parents and former Pointies to band together.“This is serious, really serious and without the support of volunteers it may mean the club will fold,” Nunn said. “The more people we get on board, the easier it’s going to be on those running the club.”Golden Point was officially established in the early 1900s and the club’s senior arm merged with East Ballarat in 2001 to form East Point.Nunn said the club had a long, rich history and the league hoped this would not end simply due to a lack of volunteers for specific roles.Birch said even someone to help with a social committee – organising team photos and pie nights – would offer a huge relief for the president.Anyone interested in becoming involved at the club – Point parents, former Pointies and prospective Pointies – is encouraged to contact the club.* Golden Point will hold its AGM at White Flat Oval on Saturday from 7pm.
