Ballarat boys rule in state futsal teams

BALLARAT has a strong hand in Victorian teams for the 2009 National School Futsal Championships.Catey Wylie-O'Brien, Danielle Wright, Kaitlyn Waldie and Jackie Pennell will represent the state in the girls 19-year-old competition, while Marcus Lynch, David King, Charlie King, Anthony Cocomazzo, Luke Terrill, Matthew Radogevic, Michael Ferguson and coach Michael Busija will take up most of the boys 19-year-old team, which won this competition last year.Meanwhile, Ballarat's Lachlan Dawson and Dejan Mitrovic have been selected for the 11-year-old boys and Nicholas Frawley and Jackson Leach for the 12-year-old boys' squads.Ballarat referees Jack Knights and Kael Wylie-O'Brien will officiate at the three-day championships, which start today and run through until Thursday.A number of other Victorian teams in different age groups will compete.Competition will be held in Albury and Wodonga, with teams from far north Queensland, north Queensland, Whitsundays Queensland, central Queensland, country Queensland, south Queensland, Northern New South Wales, New South Wales, Tasmania south, Tasmania north and New Zealand also participating.Futsal is an indoor version of soccer, played with five players per team on the court at one time, including a goalkeeper. A smaller soccer ball is also used.
