WEST Australian guard Jarrad Prior is the Ballarat Miners' latest signing ahead of the South East Australian Basketball League season. The 23-year-old has made the move east hoping to open the door to a full-time NBL career.Prior has spent two years in a National Basketball League environment, as a development player with reigning champion Perth Wildcats. He proudly speaks of the championship ring he now treasures from that experience. With players restricted to a two-year stint on a team's development list and no place for him on the Wildcats roster, Prior sees joining Ballarat as an opportunity to catch the eye of an NBL team. The Miners have recruited Prior as a shooting guard ? filling the void left by the departure of Tariq Naqqash.Prior joins new imports Nick Aldridge and Ivan Harris from the United States, along with youngster Cameron McCallum, as new signings.Ballarat head coach Guy Molloy sourced Prior on the recommendation of friend and Wildcats mentor Rob Beveridge.Prior impressed Molloy in a try-out in Ballarat and also liked what he saw of the city.Prior is a 160-game veteran with Perth Redbacks in the WA State Basketball League. While an ankle injury interrupted his 2010 season, Prior is ready to go for the Miners.Jared Scoines remains the only missing piece in the Miners' jigsaw. While Ballarat remains confident that Scoines will be back for a second season at the Minerdome, it is yet to formally obtain his release from NBL team Sydney Kings.
