Ballarat rowers to feature at Nagambie

BALLARAT High School and Ballarat Clarendon College will feature in the Ballarat Rowing Association Regatta at Nagambie Lakes today.Despite not being on Lake Wendouree for seven years, the regatta remains one of the strongest on the Rowing Victorian calendar.Entries are up this year to more than 2000 for 56 events on the program.St Patrick's College, which has been training on the Thomson River at Sale, was to have had two fours crews at the regatta, but will not be making the trip as part of its build-up to the Ballarat Associated Schools Head of the Lake at Geelong on Sunday, February 28, and the national titles at Nagambie in early March.Ballarat Clarendon College has entered eight crews in four events - female and male coxed fours, female B-grade coxed four and male C-grade coxed four.The regatta comes after a four-day camp at Nagambie for the college.College rowing director Ross Henderson said the camp, which featured 90 students, marked the resumption of training after the holidays.He said the college would step up its program with a camp for another six crews at Geelong in the week ahead of the Barwon Regatta at Geelong.Ballarat High School has entered eight crews in five events - female B-grade coxed four, male and female coxed four, and male B and C-grade coxed fours.High School will stay on after the regatta for an extended training camp at the venue, as it resumes its rowing program in earnest.Today's regatta features 1000 and 2000-metre races.Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club has its annual regatta at Nagambie on Saturday, February 7.
