EXPERIENCED Point bowler Mark Vandeheuval sparked the batting collapse that safely secured his team a 17-run victory.Vandeheuval captured 5-34 off 8.1 overs, destroying the Hawks' middle order, in the latest chapter between neighbouring rivals Golden Point and East Ballarat at Russell Square.Point's sound team effort impressed in this Ballarat Cricket Association club firsts showdown on Saturday.Golden Point captain Josh White said the way his team played was a great way to start the season. Point opener Brad Palmer set up the innings with 57 runs (8 fours), supported by White in a 74-run stand by the second wicket.Veteran all-rounder Steve O'Loughlin held Point's middle order with an unbeaten 30 runs by compulsory closure at 4-162.Hawks' skipper Nathan Yates was frugal in his bowling, claiming 1-18 off eight overs. The Hawks lost opener Peter Colbourne cheaply.Young Pointie Daniel White nabbed Brad Whittaker (31 runs) and Yates, first ball, to be on a hat-trick and send the Hawks reeling, 3-45, 20 overs in.Darcy Thomson and Mark Shaw sought to steady the order until Vandeheuval struck in the 33rd over, claiming Thomson.Vandeheuval nabbed Carl Haseloff and Shaw on consecutive deliveries five overs later and the Hawks began to crumble.IN A WHITE-wash at Wendouree West, Napoleons-Sebastopol openers Les Sandwith and Luke Corden used just 18 overs to seal victory.Rival North Ballarat served up six bowlers, who could not budge the pair as it mowed down the Roosters' 115-run tally at Wendouree West.Corden hit nine fours and one six in his 63 runs off 59 balls. Sandwith made 49 runs off 51, including four fours.Naps-Sebas bowlers laid the solid ground-work, strangling the Roosters' bid for momentum.Paceman Ash Ringin took 3-22 off nine overs while his brother Matt was economical with 2-22 and four maidens off his nine overs.Corden and Sri Lankan recruit Roshan Mahapatuna also snared two wickets apiece.RED CAP recruits made sure reigning premier Wendouree opened its season account with a win.The Red Caps reached their 208-run target three wickets down and with six overs spare at Mt Clear.New opener Trent Milne started with a solid 47 runs but it was an 81-run second wicket partnership with returned premier cricketer Tristan Dixon that set up the innings.Dixon tore apart the Mounties' attack with 88 (16 fours) off 93 balls.Fellow newcomer Tom Reese polished off his all-round performance with an unbeaten 40 runs, having earlier captured 4-28.Mounties' skipper Matt Goonan opened the Mounties' innings with 76 runs (11 fours) and built an 83-run partnership with Matt Ward (30 runs) by the third wicket.He also claimed a key wicket, bowling Dixon out.BILLED a batting showdown, Ballarat-Redan flexed all-round strength in its five-wicket win against Brown Hill.The Combine held Ballarat Electrical Bulls to 197 runs at Progress Park.Wickets were evenly shared with captain Cameron Landry leading the charge, 3-26.Bulls' captain Ryan Knowles, batting number four, belted 51 runs (3 sixes, 7 fours) and built a 96-run partnership with his brother Jason (26 runs).Tim Knowles picked up in the lower order where his brothers left off with 39 runs.Young Combine opener Allister Edmends carved up the Bulls' bowling with 80 runs (eight fours).Edmends combined with Matt Hoey to anchor the innings in a 114-run four-wicket partnership. Hoey made 60 runs (two sixes, six fours).Andrew Stevens carried the bulk of the Bulls' bowling work, taking 3-40.STEADY Darley opener Ryan Pawczynski and skipper Matt Cape steered the Lions to victory.The Lions eased past Coronet City's 150-run tally with five wickets spare at Wendouree Secondary College.Pawczynski hit 40 off 81 balls while Cape notched up 48 runs off 42. Cape was dismissed at 3-98. All the Lions had to do was keep chipping away.Darrin Carroll was the linchpin for City's innings with 69 runs.Brendan Burns, added 34 alongside Carroll in a 51-run partnership.
