SPRINGBANK has swooped on Redan multi-premiership player Sam Giblett to coach the club in 2012.Giblett will take over the role from Dean Romeril, who has led the Tigers during the past two Central Highlands Football League seasons.Romeril, who stood down from the position and remains uncommitted on his playing future, was joint coach with Joe Carmody in 2010 before going it alone last season.Giblett, still basking in the glory of Redan’s thrilling two-point win over Sunbury in the Ballarat Football League grand final, will be announced to players and supporters at Friday night’s presentation evening.A running defender, Giblett is a BFL interleague representative and was named in the back pocket of Redan’s Team of the Decade.Springbank president Anthony Simpson was upbeat about Giblett’s appointment, saying the club had been in talks with the 30-year-old during the past month.Simpson said Giblett was hoping to create a successful culture at Tigerland. “Sam had said to us when he went to Redan as a kid (the coach) created a dynasty there. Sam said he learned a lot from that and now wants to do the same at a club himself,” he said.“We’re quite fortunate to have Sam come along with that attitude.“The first goal will be finals for us. We know we are probably not going to make the top three or four in the first year, but Sam’s got more than a 12-month program for us. ‘‘He’s there for the long term.”Simpson said Giblett had provided a list of prospective players he was keen to chase ahead of next season.Springbank finished the 2011 CHFL season in 10th with seven wins and 10 defeats.
