THE second Mark Power era at Sunbury has begun with all the authority of Power's first stint at the helm of the eastern Lions.Sunbury opened its 2009 RegionalOne Ballarat Football League campaign with a punishing 128-point win over Bacchus Marsh at Clarke Oval.Any hopes Cobras' fans had of a competitive showing from their team were quickly dashed as Sunbury marched away to a 29.8 (182) to 8.6 (54) victory. The Lions had the four premiership points in hand by three-quarter time with a 62 point lead, but were in no mood for charity and piled on 12 goals to one in the final term to turn a big win into a humiliating one.The Lions hunted in packs, ran the ball down the corridor and had an array of scoring options.Sadly for the Cobras, too many of the defiencies that have marked their years of struggle were on show again. There was a lack of imagination in their approach to the game, too many skill errors and the movement of the ball into their forward line, especially when kicking long was too haphazard. The writing was on the wall as early as the opening bounce when Sunbury looked the more switched-on of the two sides.Jamie Lobb, who has returned to the Lions fold this year, was particularly damaging and picked up possessions at will. After trailing by 19 points at quarter-time, the Cobras enjoyed their most productive period of the game early in the second quarter, a period in which they kicked two of the first three goals of the term and appeared to have got their game into gear. The Cobra' challenge was soon squashed, however.Sunbury put the result beyond doubt with a run of nine unanswered goals and from there the match was little more than a training drill. The one positive to come out of a dirty afternoon for the Cobras was the impressive BFL debut of Papua New Guinean recruit Ali Pinda. The 19-year-old looked every bit the senior footballer with generally clean disposal, a good turn of speed, plenty of flair and a willingness to back himself.
