Theo Rosmolder, 52, was found near the Sweet Nell mine site this morning.
He is currently receiving medical attention.
Police and emergency service workers scoured up to 200 square kilometres of remote desert terrain for Mr Rosmolder, who had not been seen since Friday afternoon.
A police aeroplane and 30 officers and SES volunteers on quad bikes, foot and in four-wheel-drives combed the area this morning.
Mr Rosmolder and five others, including his wife, had been looking for gold 140km north of Laverton on Friday, near the Sweet Nell mine site.
The area is thick with mine shafts and open pits, and surrounded by light to heavy scrub.
Police spokesman Ian Hasleby said Mr Rosmolder was fit, but had no food, water, matches or electronic tracking device and was only wearing light clothing.
Light rain fell around Laverton overnight and the temperature dropped to 12 degrees.
