The Ballarat sports champion became involved in surf boat racing after competing in flat water rowing in the London Olympic Games, joining the club at Jan Juc.
“It was a bit chillier than we would have liked, but the standard was really good and we were happy to come away with a win,” Marburg said.
“There isn’t much in it between the top crews. We didn’t nail it – there is still some work to do, but we took a step in the right direction.”
Marburg said the main thing the crew was working on to improve was its starts.
Racing alongside Marburg was Josh Nalder who boarded at Ballarat Grammar, and whom Marburg rowed against during high school.
The crew raced a round robin competition, racing four times during the day, achieving three firsts and one second over an 800-metre course.
Jan Juc took first position in the event, followed by Woolamai with the Lorne Bobcats in third.
The crew will next race in the second leg of the series in Port Fairy on Saturday.
