Young theatre talent James Kernick and singer-songwriter Paul Mah were among performers to take to the stage, while the Ballarat Memorial Concert Band led most of the music with the support of the Sing Australia choir.
A sea of candles and glow sticks filled the lawn area as the sun went down, with families singing and swaying with the music.
Children ran around and played games in the surrounding grassed area, enjoying a mild summer night.
Delacombe couple Daniel and Nicole Ross came to the event to take in the strong sense of community.
“I think it’s really important to come along and attend events like this because there’s more to Christmas than just getting presents,” Mr Ross said.
“It’s nice to see so many people here because with so many negative things happening in the world, it’s important to remember there’s more good things than bad and this is one of the good.”
Matthew and Michelle Oertel enjoyed the carols with their children Seth, 6, and Blair, 4.
“This is our first carols since we moved to Ballarat and it’s a really good atmosphere,” Mr Oertel said.
“It’s a beautiful spot and just a great environment.
“The weather is perfect too.”
The Senior Pastor from the York Street Church of Christ, Tim Clark, said singing carols was a great way to bring the community together.
“The Eureka Carols have grown over the years to become Ballarat’s main carols event,” he said.
“It’s a great way for volunteers to enjoy giving back to the community and we have a very professional team of volunteers that enjoy contributing their talents.”
3BA’s Frank Clark hosted the evening, which also raised money for the 3BA Christmas Appeal.
