The match was close all day, with one of Mt Xavier’s rinks storming away at the finish, only to be matched by one of Webbcona’s rinks mirroring the process.
Webbcona ladies secretary Ann Gull said it was unfortunate her rink lost a few over the last few ends after being close all day, with Mt Xavier’s Joy Adams performing very strongly at the finish.
Adams defeated Gull 31-17.
“It was disappointing to fall away at the end,” Gull said.
“We’re glad to have picked up the seven points – hopefully it will get us off the bottom end of the ladder, but we would have liked a few more.”
Mt Xavier match committee Carmel Mitchell said her rink was about 16 all at 16 ends before Webbcona’s Jenny Shepherd pulled away to have her team win 31-16.
“It just tended to be in the end what I was down, Joy Adams was up,” Mitchell said.
Mt Xavier’s Cath Ogg and Webbcona’s Jackie Hammond had a closer finish of only one shot, Ogg winning 23-22.
Judith Caddy lead the way for Creswick to defeat Central Wendouree B, beating Carleen Bowers 37-7 in one rink. Central picked up the other two rinks in closer clashes, but were unable to close the gap, with a final score of Creswick 80 and Central Wendouree B 60.
Avenue upset Daylesford at home in a close match, winning 68-62.
Midlands Golf defeated Smeaton 73-64, still just outside of the top four but battling to make ground before finals.
Central Wendouree A continued their strong season yesterday, picking up two rinks and defeating Victoria 64-52.
