From today, April 1, the company will investigate moving to a new “ultracompact” newspaper format.
News director Andrew Ramadge said the move was necessary to address widespread changes in the media industry.
“The way readers engage with media has changed forever,” he said.
“News organisations need to make bold decisions to ensure they stay up-to-date with consumers in the 21st century.
“The Courier already provides breaking local news through our free iPhone and Android apps. Soon our print product will be just as convenient.
“As The Courier newspaper is already ‘compact’, we will be looking at moving to an ‘ultracompact’ format to compete with handheld devices.
The Courier's new ultracompact format.
“From Monday to Friday, The Courier will be able to fit easily in your pocket or handbag, while still containing everything you need to know about what’s happening in the Ballarat community.
“Our popular weekend edition will remain the same size.”
Happy April Fools' day from everyone at The Courier.
