Broadbent said the association was “ramping up” its commitment to Football Federation Victoria’s Respect and Responsibility program, and that there was no place for disputing decisions, negative comments or any kind of abuse or vilification on the pitch.
“We want to have a real concerted effort this year to get rid of (bad behaviour) altogether,” Broadbent said.
“With the growing ethic mix in Ballarat now, we want to make it clear to everyone that there is no place for racism or racist comments at our grounds.
“We want to present a good product to the people of Ballarat so they’ll choose to play soccer.” Broadbent’s comments come on the eve of the 2013 season, which kicks off with men’s divisions one and two tomorrow.
League champions Vikings begin their title defence with a clash against North United at St Georges Reserve.
The Vikings will be keen to see where they measure up this year after the club entered teams in the FFV men’s state league five competition.
This is sure to see the talented pool stretched, setting new coach Mike Degnen a tough task in his first season in charge.
Grand final winners Warrnambool launches its season with a trip to meet Ballarat at Pleasant Street, while Vic Park and Forest Rangers lock horns at Morshead Park synthetic.
All other divisions begin on Sunday, April 28.
