The man and a co-accused also led the same company to believe they were from a Ballarat architectural company, before again attempting to get three new phones and an iPad.
Tannon Lloyd, 28, wiped away tears in Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday as he was sentenced to 18 months’ jail.
Already serving time for other matters, Lloyd pleaded guilty to more than 20 charges, including burglary, shop theft and obtaining property by deception.
The court heard that, on October 10 last year, Lloyd contacted Vicwest Community Telco in Ballarat, saying he was from J O’Connol Hairdressing – a fake business – and needed three iPhones for the business.
VICwest Community Telco provided Lloyd the phones, one of which he gave to a co-accused as payment for her part in picking the phones up.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Clint Prebble said on another occasion Lloyd contacted Vicwest Community Telco, saying he was Peter Dunn from Morton Dunn Architects in Ballarat.
Senior Constable Prebble said Lloyd requested three phones and an iPad for the business. He was told he could collect them in Geelong.
However, Lloyd later fled from the Telco’s Geelong business after an employee said she had contacted the real Peter Dunn, who had no knowledge of the transaction.
Lloyd’s defence lawyer, Mike Wardell, said his client had been addicted to heroin since he was 25 and as a result had turned to crime to fund his habit.
Lloyd received 18 months jail with a non-parole period of 10 months and was ordered to pay $3471 in restitution.
