The award recognises Ben Gallagher for the development of information technology programs and implementing them in the classroom.
“We live in a stimulating environment and I think education needs to change as the world has,” Mr Gallagher said.
“Having to convince people that the way we have done things in the past isn’t the best way to teach at present can be challenging.”
The self-confessed nerd integrates information technologies such as iPods, Xbox, and Nintendo Wii into his classes.
He believes children can use these technologies to be creative and innovative rather than consumers.
Mr Gallagher said the key to his teaching ethic was to inspire creativity in his students.
“Being able to build strong relationships with students and having the desire and drive to change and grow as a learner yourself,” he said.
ICTEV has nominated Mr Gallagher for the National 2013 Educator of the Year.
